I was born, raised and attended school among the bugs, critters and trees in Langlade County, situated in
north-central Wisconsin, a place I call God's country.
I graduated from Elcho High School in 1979 (Go Hornets) and got a bachelor of science degree from the University
of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where I majored in journalism and finished minors in radio-tv film and political science.
UW-O is also the place I met my wonderful wife, Carol, and we'll be celebrating 25 years of marriage in
September. We have two great kids: Trevor is 21 and attending my collegiate alma mater, while Rachel is 19 and going to UW-Rock
County here in Janesville.
I worked at daily newspapers for nearly 20 years, with stops in Alliance and Scottsbluff, Neb., from 1984-88;
a visit to Sterling, Ill., from 1988-90; a brief stint in Waukesha, Wis., from 1990-91; and then at the Gazette in Janesville
from 1991-2003.
My first book was published in 2002 and called "Cold Wars: 40 Years of Packer-Viking Rivalry." I've been
a freelance sports writer since 2003 and have authored three more books since.
I've written articles for newspapers, magazines and Web sites, and I'm hoping one of the two novels I've
started becomes a bestseller_and soon!
Otherwise, I enjoy the great outdoors, which includes a little fishing, walking/hiking, playing touch football,
bird feeding and sitting in front of my fire pit, usually listening to a Milwaukee Brewers game, mainly because of announcer
Bob Uecker. I also enjoy reading, going to movies with my family and listening to music, especially country western.
